A small stone-look guardian with his own solar lantern
A winged gargoyle crouched in thought, holding out a hooked rod with a little lantern. By day it charges from the sun; after dark the lantern glows warm white.
Resin, stone finish21 x 17 x 13cmSolar lanternWarm white LEDOn/off button480g
Handcrafted resin, coloured by hand in a natural stone tone.
Crouched, winged and a little grumpy
He sits on his haunches with his chin on his fist, folded wings behind him and a rod over his shoulder. The surface is textured and coloured like weathered stone.
At 21cm tall, he's sized for a step, a pot rim or the edge of a garden bed rather than the middle of a lawn.
A lantern that charges itself
The lantern holds a small polycrystalline solar panel and a rechargeable 1.2V battery. Leave him somewhere sunny and the warm white LED lights the lantern at night.
There's an on/off button on the lantern, so you can switch it off when he's on a shelf indoors.
Winter evenings in a Melbourne courtyard
The days are short, the pavers are damp and the jasmine is waiting for spring. On the bench by the back door, the lantern comes on as the light fades.
It's a small glow, not a floodlight. Just enough that the courtyard feels looked after when you take the bins out.
Inside or out
He works as garden decor, on a porch, or indoors on a bookshelf or mantel. The maker shows him on tables, steps and posts.
Indoors, the lantern still needs time on a sunny windowsill to charge.
No wiring, no batteries to buy
Everything sits inside the lantern: the panel, the 80mAh rechargeable battery and the LED. Nothing to plug in and nothing to wire up.
